There’s a refreshing air of revolution in the trailer for the season 5 of Orange is the New Black released this morning by Netflix.
Following the shocking events that ended the fourth season, the women of Litchfield Penitentiary are ready to fight for justice and better treatment after Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death by starting a riot to take over the prison.
This fifth season will unfold in real time over the course of 3 days, just moments after the previous chapter left off, and will premiere on Netflix on June 9.
It will mark the return of the stars of the show Danielle Brooks, Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox, Taryn Manning and Blair Brown.
Running since 2013, the critically acclaimed series has recently had most of its new episodes leaked online by a mysterious hacker after Netflix refused to pay an unknown ransom. An event that didn’t seem to affect the VOD platform nor its subscribers as initially intended. In fact, the company’s stock price rose nearly 2 percent the morning after the hack and many fans of the show made pleas online to call viewers not to download the leaked episode.
