Dwayne Johnson and co. Play a Wild Game in ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ Trailer

We all remember the magical board game that made Alan Parrish’s (Robin Williams) life a living hell in the awesome 1995 Jumanji! Roll the dice and you could lose an arm or get chased by the freakiest spiders you’ve ever seen. Oh, and do you remember those super creepy tokens that moved by themselves? Aaah, those were good times! It made us pretty impatient to discover what the sequel, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, had in stock!

And today is the day! Prepare yourself for a totally new take on the infamous game as it gets an upgrade. Yep, you heard it. In the sequel, featuring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, Jumanji is now an old-fashioned 90’s video game! But don’t worry, it seems to have the same tricks in store. Although this time around, it’s not the jungle that will come to the protagonists.

The story is simple, 4 teenagers (Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain and Morgan Turner) do something bad, meet in detention (sounds familiar?), get to clean up the high school’s basement, find an evil Nintendo-like console, start playing a video game called ‘Jumanji’, each pick a character, and bam! Get sucked into the TV and wake up in a tropical nightmare!

The best part? The young students end up in the bodies of the avatars they chose. Which means that Spencer, the shy, germaphobe guy, is now muscular Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson), sporty ‘Fridge’ becomes the short and cerebral Franklin “Moose” Finbar (Hart), brainiac Martha is the sexy, badass Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan), and as for Bethany, the superficial, popular girl, well, she gets to be “overweight, middle-age man” Professor Shelly Oberon (Black) – karma, giiirl!

Nick Jonas also joins the cast of the sequel as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough, a mysterious character who seems to know his way around the game’s dangerous jungle.

In addition to being action-packed, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which was shot in Hawaii, also includes some funny scenes (mostly thanks to the hilarious performances of Kevin Hart and Jack Black) like the one where, after Bethany’s avatar gets eaten alive by a huge hippopotamus, ‘Fridge’ justifies why he shouldn’t get close to the water, “I’ve gotta backpack on! You don’t get into the water with a backpack – everybody knows that!”

Among the cast of the follow-up, we’ll also come across Missi Pyle, Bobby Cannavale, Rhys Darby, Tim Matheson, and even Robin Williams via flashback archive footage from the first film!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will hit theatres on December 22.
